  Workshop on Integrated Weed Management in Managed and Natural Ecosystems
Bogor, 23-25 June 1998

Objectives

The workshop is organized with the following objectives:

  1. To Solicit information on the occurence of exotic vegetation which may be considered as problem weeds in the future, the stage of spread and the ecosystems which are under threat of weed invasion
  2. To document the existing technology in weed management
  3. To develop a more comprehensive approach to weed management
  4. To recommend research, training, symposia activities to support the development of a more comprehensive measure of weed management

Programmes

The programmes will consist of presentation of keynote addresses, country reports and contributed papers submitted to the workshop in the form of review articles or research findings, as well as poster presentation on topics given below. Agrochemical exhibition and field trip to relevant places shall be undertaken too.

The workshop will dwell upon the following topics:

  1. Biology and population dynamics of weeds
  2. Ecosystem (managed as well as natural) and weed invasion
  3. Weed control techniques (physical, chemical and biological means) and their development for production or protection systems
  4. Economics of weed management in support of agribuciness
  5. Integrated weed management for sustainable production systems

Keynote addresses and country reports are delivered in plenary sessions at 30 minutes each, while contributed papers will be deliberated in concurrent sessions in the form of working groups. Each working group will be represented by its convenor in a plenary session for developing recommendations

Venue

The workshops will be held at BIOTROP, Bogor, West Java Indonesi, on 23-25 June 1998. In this time of the year the climate is normally mild warm, as its the end of rainy season. It tends to be cooler in BIOTROP as Bogor is on hill.

Registration Fee

Participants are requested to register in advance with Organizing Committee not later than June 10, 1998 and the registartion fee through BIOTROP Bank Account at BNI 1946, Bogor Branch No. 061.000345971.1001. The registration fee is as follows:

  1. Regular participants (US$ 100)
  2. Students (US$ 50)

A very limited numbers of slots for financial assistance is available to applicants from SEAMEO members countries. Aplicants for financial assistance must be endorsed by the Ministry of Education of the applicant's country. Applicants seeking nomination for financial assistance must provide the Minister of Education a copy of the accomplished form (Form 1), and one copy to BIOTROP on or before June 10, 1998.
